WASH in Selected Basic Schools and Possible Implications on Health and Academics: An Example of the Wa Municipality of Ghana, West Africa

Effective learning in school is significantly influenced by water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions. However, most schools developing countries, WASH often inadequate. The study focused on the accessibility, availability, quality, sufficiency of public schools. This cross-sectional employed use an observational checklist where 29 self-administered questionnaires were administered to Headteachers selected area was divided into six grids using ArcGIS 9.3©, from each grid, five selected. northeastern part municipality four sample chosen, since that had fewer bacteriological quality (fecal coliforms) water assessed for health safety. R software Microsoft Excel used data analysis. showed 37.9% access potable but 27.5% these sources fecally contaminated. Though 93.1% toilet facilities, 77.8% shared both teachers students. further 96.6% gender-segregated, 59.3% lacked bins whiles 41.4% practiced open defecation. Hygiene facilities lacking as 75.9% hand washing all menstrual facilities.
